After the 2104 season got off to a great start at the Rolex 24 at Daytona, the UK season got underway with a test on the Silverstone GP circuit (Wednesday) and the next day at Rockingham. We were in Kevin Norville's Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT4 car. The weather was kind though cold at Silverstone and with a semi exclusive allowing only 25 cars it was high quality test time. All went well and we ran on the new Michelin tyres, mandated by the Championship, for the first time. The cobwebs were well and truly blown out!!
We arrived to unforecast rain at Rockingham. This made things even more interesting as Kevin had never driven there before. So on went the wets and with plenty of caution re that big concrete wall we set about learning the track. Kevin worked hard and by the end of the day had the circuit well learned and was turning good times, now in the dry on slicks.
All in all an excellent opener and with loads more to come this month. Next stop is Portimao with David Mason in his Ferrari 458 in preparation for a season of Britcar and GT Cup. Then on to Paul Ricard and a couple of days in with a client in a Radical SR3RS to ready him for his first full season of racing.
